Editing Samples

To give you an idea of what an edited document looks like, here are some samples. Editing is usually done in MS Word, with tracked changes. Final proofreading is often done on PDF manuscript proofs.
Substantive Edit (Structural, Stylistic and Copy Editing)
As can be seen from the example below, insertions are shown in red, and deletions appear on the right side along with any comments. Authors can right-click on a deletion and accept or reject it, make additional changes, respond to comments, and make new comments.

Proofreading
This is the final step before something is published, and proofreading is usually done on a manuscript layout as a PDF. Only essential changes are made, and these are usually done as comments rather than directly in the document.
